Summer Credit Programs: Opening February 2
Summer Reach Ahead programs are for students during the summer after Grade 8, and before Grade 9 starts. Summer Reach Ahead provides an opportunity for students to complete some compulsory credit courses before starting Grade 9. Courses offered include Civics and/or Careers, or some Technological Education courses (Construction or Cosmetology). Students choosing to attend these courses during the summer before Grade 9 can free up space in their timetable in later years!
CIVICS AND/OR CAREERS – Civics and Careers are offered online during the summer, in self-guided modules, using The HUB. Although Civics and Careers are Grade 10 courses, these Reach Ahead courses have been structured with appropriate language and content for Grade 8 students. These half credit courses are equivalent to 55 hours of in-class time each, and are typically taken during the same summer. Teachers will be available to provide live support on MS Teams during their “office hours,” one hour daily.
TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION – Technological Education courses are offered in-person through the Summer Reach Ahead program. Summer course options for this program include Construction or Cosmetology (Hairstyles & Aesthetics). These courses are IN-PERSON during the summer at Bernie Custis Secondary School, Nora F. Henderson Secondary School and Waterdown District High School.
ALREADY REGISTERED? GREAT! Confirmations and/or notices of cancellation will be emailed regularly through until mid-June.
